Charlotte Cate is an 18 year old singer-songwriter and pianist from Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Classically trained in piano and voice, she blends the worlds of piano rock, indie pop and folk to create a truly distinctive and ethereal sound. Her music draws from the classical roots (and the kookiness) of artists such as Tori Amos, Kate Bush and Fiona Apple. Always a captivating theatrical performance.

To celebrate our official opening of the new upstairs Love Food Lounge Bar on this big Saturday night of the Deep North Festival, we have gone straight to the top and released our rich garlic smells to attract local legend Rick Melick, keyboard extraordinaire.

Rick calls Avalon his home for its calming peaceful beachside air, after decades touring extensively with many of the greats.

In a rare intimate solo performance, at our new Love Food Lounge Bar upstairs at the refurbed Avalon Cinema, Rick will take you on a journey through the swampy blues back lanes, with stories, songs and good humour he is renowned for.

Seven years and in excess of 1,200 gigs with US Blues Rock phenomenon Joe Bonamassa gave him the thrill of 7x US and European #1 CD’s and 2 #11 DVD’s including Gold and Platinum Awards for “Live At The Royal Albert Hall” and “Live From The Beacon Theatre.” 

It also gave him the opportunity to work with the world’s best. He has filmed and/or recorded with Eric Clapton, John Denver, B.B. King, Beth Hart, Paul Rogers & more. 

Iconic Australian acts such as the late Andy Gibb, Glenn Shorrock, Dragon, Jon Stevens, Stevie Wright, Brian Cadd, Doug Parkinson and Jimmy Little have all used Rick’s services on keyboards. 

In 2012 he was voted Blues Keyboard Player of the year by USA Blues Magazine.
